Ben Ward – owner/operator
APA Sports Physiotherapist/PhD Candidate
- Bachelor of Physiotherapy (1st class honours)
- Master of Physiotherapy (Sports)
- L2 Road & Track Cycling Coach
Ben completed his undergraduate training with 1st class honours in 2005 and undertook post-graduate training in sports physiotherapy in 2008/9. He has had a special interest in cycling throughout the entirety of his training and professional career, and now has over 11yrs bike fitting experience. During the early and mid-2000’s he was a competitive road and track cyclist, having transitioned to the sport from distance running due to recurrent lower limb overuse injuries. His own personal struggles with injury as a runner and cyclist have given him a great deal of insight into the impact this can have on an athlete and has also profoundly influenced his treatment philosophy.
Outside of running Cycle Dynamics, between 2012 and 2015 he worked as a clinical educator at the University of Queensland (UQ) in the post-graduate sports physiotherapy course, supervising students and lecturing on cycling analysis. As of January 2016, he commenced a PhD to research the interactions between rider size/proportions, crank length and frame geometry on cycling injury and performance, being undertaken conjointly at UQ and the Queensland Academy of Sport’s (QAS) Centre of Excellence (CoE) for Applied Science Research.
